Terdapat perdebatan pada frasa "υἱοῦ τοũ θεοῦ” (Son of God) dalam Markus 1:1. Menurut sebagian ahli kritik teks, frasa itu tidak orisinil dan baru ditambahkan kemudian (dikenal sebagai the shorter reading). Namun, para ahli kritik teks lainnya masih meyakini keberadaan frasa ini bersifat orisinil (dikenal sebagai the longer reading). Penelitian ini membuktikan keberadaan frasa υἱοῦ τοũ θεοῦ dalam Mark 1:1 dapat dipertanggungjawabkan. Dengan mempertimbangkan bukti eksternal, saya menemukan meskipun berbagai kesaksian yang mendukung the shorter reading dan the longer reading sama-sama didukung oleh manuskrip yang berusia tua dan tersebar secara merata, namun pertimbangan terhadap genealogical relationship memberikan dukungan yang kuat terhadap keberadaan frasa ini. Ketiadaan frasa υἱοῦ τοũ θεοῦ dalam beberapa majuscules harus dipahami sebagai kesalahan homoioteleuton yang dilakukan para penyalin kitab. Lebih jauh, pertimbangan terhadap bukti internal juga memberikan dukungan yang kuat terhadap keberadaan frasa ini. Hal ini bisa dilihat dari frekuensi penggunaan frasa ini, yang sangat berkaitan dengan Mesianic Secret dan inklusio. Berbagai bukti ini menyimpulkan bahwa frasa υἱοῦ τοũ θεοῦ benar-benar ada dalam Markus 1:1. Keberadaan frasa ini di awal Injil Markus memberikan pesan tidak biasa yang kontras dan radikal kepada para pembaca abad pertama yang hidup di tengah konteks Yudaisme, Helenistik, dan Kekaisaran Romawi.
