Yudha Thianto

Yudha Thianto merupakan seorang profesor pada bidang Sejarah Kekristenan dan Teologi Reformed di Calvin Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids, Amerika Serikat. Sebelum melayani di Calvin Theological Seminary, ia adalah profesor pada bidang Teologi di Trinity Christian College, Palos Heights, Illinois; adjunct professor di Cornerstone University, Calvin Seminary; dosen tamu di STT Reformed Injili Internasional, Jakarta, Indonesia; dan saat ini menjabat sebagai professor tamu di Sekolah Tinggi Teologi SAAT, Malang, Indonesia.

Abstrak

Joseph Bingham (1668−1723) merupakan salah satu pembela ortodoksi Reformed di Gereja Inggris. Pada masanya, ia dikenal sebagai sarjana patristik yang magnum opus-nya, Origines Ecclesiasticae atau The Antiquities of the Christian Church, bertindak sebagai kesaksian dari studinya yang luar biasa. Karya besar sepuluh jilid ini terbit antara 1708 dan 1722. Terjerat dalam kontroversi mengenai trinitas di Oxford University pada masa mudanya, ia menghabiskan sisa hidupnya untuk membuktikan ortodoksinya melalui studi dan publikasi patristiknya. Artikel ini berfokus pada penggunaan Bingham atas tulisan-tulisan para bapa gereja dalam pembelaannya terhadap kepercayaan teologis dan praktik baptisan bayi di Gereja Inggris.
